Family Vacation Idea for

With such as variety of islands lying within easy reach of one another, island-hoping is an enjoyable way of seeing the Caribbean. Yachts are readily available for four to eight people or more and can be rented as bareboats or crewed. All yachts have fridges, kitchenware and bedding, most provide masks and snorkels, and some carry windsurfing and diving equipment. Day sails are available from all the islands and many beachfront hotels have small sailing boats. For a bird's-eye view, have a go at parasailing.

The best sailing destinations are the Virgin Islands and the Grenadines. Both regions are spectacularly beautiful, with convenient sailing distances separating their islands. The Virgins have good marina facilities, but this means crowds during the high season. The Grenadines have a wilder beauty, but restaurants and bars have found their way even to many of the quieter bays.

Relaible year-round winds make windsurfing a popular Caribbean sport. The best windsurfing areas are: the Dominican Republic, particularly around Cabarete on the northern shore, where World Championships are occassionally held.
