When most people think of New York, it's the city of skyscrapers that comes to mind. But there is no end of things for children to do across the state.
New york City has it all for kids, from the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to neighbourhood parks and subway musicians. Several museums are dedicated to children, and travelling circuses never miss New York.
Rochester's outstanding Strong Museum is a hands-on history centre for children and home to a whimsical environment made up of Sesame Street characters,
whaling ships, cooking shows and time labs. The small and family-managed Six Nations Indian museum near Saranac Lake offers a delightful introduction to Native American culture.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is what brings most visitors to Cooperstown. The museum houses all the important baseball artefact:
famous players'bats, gloves and uniforms and balls hit by Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and other stars of the national pastime.
For serious amusement-park type fun, take the kids to Lake George Action Park , an 1890s-style theme park,Great Escape Fun Park, with raft rides, roller coasters and live shows.
Lake Placid Village high in the Adirondack Mountains is the picturesque site of both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. It has a great deal to offer year-round, from family skiing and ice skating to summer biking and hiking.
